About the JET Programme

The JET Programme (how I became involved in teaching in Asago), is an organization that allows people from a variety of countries to move to Japan for a minimum of one year. Basically you apply to the JET Programme, and if your successful you get placed with a Contracting Organization (school board, or sometimes just one school). JET acts like a go between, they interview and hire you essentially but you don’t actually end up working for them. It’s a little confusing I suppose, but overall they do a good job of letting you know what’s going on, and even though you don’t actually work for them (someone else pays you), they continue to support you throughout your time away.
